- Many buildings such as La Sagrada Familia and la Pedrera will light up in red coinciding with World AIDS Day for the second consecutive year
- The initiative is expected to be repeated in Barcelona each year to become an international reference in the fight against AIDS
Coinciding with World AIDSDay, a large number of buildings and venues in Barcelona will light up in red in support ofthe fightagainst the disease. Barcelona wants to show its commitment and become an international reference in the fight against AIDS year after year.
This action is included within the public awareness campaign "Barcelona joins the fight against AIDS", promoted by the Barcelona City Council and the Fight against AIDS Foundation, and joins the initiative Light for Rights. The Foundation also organizes a Gala for fundraising for research tonight. Singer Miguel Bosé and model Eugenia Silva are the ambassadors of this Gala, which collected 368.000€ last year.
Between 6pm and 1am,the following buildings will light up in red: Ajuntament de Barcelona, Sagrada Familia, la Pedrera, Macba, National Theatre of Catalonia, CaixaForum Barcelona, El Liceu Opera House, Casa Batlló, Francisco Godia Foundation, El Palauet, El Poble Espanyol, Axel Hotels, Majestic and W Hotel, and some shopping centers like Arenas and Gran Vía 2, among others.
The most commercial places of Barcelona, Passeig de Gracia and Diagonal, have also collaborated in this awareness campaign, displaying the red ribbon and the slogan "Barcelona joins the fight against AIDS" in their windows.
Fight against AIDS Foundation
Fight against AIDS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to health, research and teaching in the field of HIV and AIDS. Under the direction of Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, one of the most internationally renowned scientists, the foundation has helped in assisting thousands of AIDS patients and in the research of new drugs and treatments.
