Organisation with the help of Asamer employees in Libya
Asamer in Ohlsdorf had been given a complete list of vital medicines and medical supplies by their employees in Libya, which had been put together by the Benghazi "Medical Center" and the Libyan Asamer employees.
Together with the Austrian Red Cross, the Union of Arab Medicals and Pharmacists in Austria and generous donors such as Rauscher, Asamer immediately organised this relief mission. Six pallets with medicines and bandages were initially sent to Cairo by air, other material was purchased in Cairo.
The transport from Cairo to Benghazi was organised and accompanied by Clemens Reiter. The Austrian Reiter is Chief Security Officer of the Asamer companies in Libya. At the Egyptian/Libyan border, the convoy was handed over to Libyan employees of Asamer. Reiter on the first aid convoy: "Our main concern is getting aid to the civilian population. And as a foreign company we want to show that we continue to care for the population and our employees, as much as present circumstances will allow, even if we have temporarily withdrawn from the country".
Asamer had pulled all its foreign employees out of Libya as soon as the trouble erupted, and work at the three cement factories is currently suspended. The factories' security and management was handed over to Libyan employees with whom management in Ohlsdorf is in constant contact.
