AMR Gold's exploration team has recently joined the Government of Sierra Leone in efforts to eradicate the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease which has claimed the lives of more than one thousand Sierra Leoneans.
As part of a planned strategy of support AMR Gold's Finance Manager, Mohamed Sultan Daffae made series of visits to the company's operational areas in the Sella Limba and Sanda Loko Chiefdoms in the Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone. Daffae together with community leaders held a number of public meetings with local people to raise awareness of Ebola. Among the communities visited were: Kathanta, Kayigrana, Kadabi, Kasasie, Laminaya and Kamalo.
Working together with the Government of Sierra Leone, AMR Gold last week donated forty bags of rice, eighty gallons of water, twenty gallons of vegetable oil and charcoal for five quarantined homes as well as Personal Preventive Equipment including hand sanitizers and infrared thermometers.
Speaking in Kamakwie, Mr. Daffae said, "AMR Gold is ready to support the Government in their efforts to eradicate Ebola whilst at the same time bringing help and support to its victims. We are in a crisis period and we share the President's impatience in the effort to free the country of Ebola. As a company, we see this as a wakeup call. We are ready to join the Government's Task Force and will provide as much support in our operational areas as possible."
Mr. Daffae also called on the community stakeholders to continue to work together to provide sustainable jobs for young people. "Creating local jobs will keep people local, and that helps the Ebola effort."
Foday Amara Yansaneh, MP said, "We have been proud of AMR Gold since they began operations in Sella Limba.When we discovered new cases of Ebola in the area, AMR Gold agreed to provide food for the quarantined homes and other urgently needed items to help contain the virus."
Speaking on behalf of Chiefdom, Momodu Kamara said " the Chiefdom is grateful for AMR Gold's support. We will continue to support AMR Gold."
AMR Gold directors Gary Vallerius and Chris White said in a message to the Chiefdom that "we are committed to take AMR forward. We are committed to the country and region and are ready to provide jobs for young people."
Vallerius and White also announced the appointment of Jan Ketelaar, a mining engineer with many years' experience in developing projects in Sierra Leone, as Country Manager. "We are confident that with Ketelaar and Salim Sillah, the head of our Geology team, we now have the right management team in place to lead the company to success." On his appointment Ketelaar said: "I am looking forward to bringing the project to production."
