The Altran Foundation for Innovation promotes innovation that serves the common good. Within the context of its 14th international prize, the Foundation has just announced the five winning European projects competing for its 2013 International Innovation award as well as the 2013 Innovation Makers'[1] prize.

To compete for the Altran Foundation international award, candidates must first apply in one of the participating countries, and then submit a technically and financially viable project to a national jury comprising entrepreneurs and researchers, as well as representatives from institutional bodies.
Being a regional prize winner means being able to benefit from six months of skills-based sponsorship during which a team of Altran engineers lend their support to help develop and transform the winning project into an industrial reality.
While, collectively, the themes chosen by the competing countries provide a panorama of the technological, economic and social challenges in Europe, the winning solutions offer the potential to pave the way for new sources of growth. Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal and the UK have announced their regional prize-winning projects which will be competing for the two 2013 awards this coming February.
