SSAE 16 is an internationally recognized third-party assurance audit for service providers. On June 15, 2011, it effectively replaced its predecessor, the Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70), as the leading compliance initiative for service organizations. A refined version of the SAS 70, it provides an enhanced Auditor's report requiring service organizations to provide an Assertion Statement with a reasonable basis to support it.
