OvuSense™ Takes the Guesswork Out of Pregnancy Planning
It is estimated that as many as 1 in 6 couples experience difficulty in getting pregnant and no doubt those couples are surprised when their anticipated pregnancy does not happen easily.
So what steps can they take to help themselves? Firstly a woman has to establish whether she is ovulating. She then needs to know when she will ovulate as this is not always in the middle of her cycle. Even a woman with a normal cycle may ovulate at different times of the month; or may not be ovulating at all.
To remove this uncertainty, and to provide women and couples with the information they need, OvuSense™, a novel fertility aid, has just been launched in the UK. OvuSense™ offers a reliable predictor of the whole fertile period by using a specially developed software programme that interprets information collected from the individual woman to give her individualised predictions. OvuSense™ does so weeks in advance. This allows women and couples to take control of their situation; to know when she is more likely to become pregnant.
Each cycle, OvuSense™ in addition will reassure women that ovulation is indeed taking place; or give her warning if it isn't so that she can ask for advice early. The system is consistent, reliable and accurate.
Women who are participating in the clinical trial for OvuSense™ with Lead Clinical Adviser Dr Spyros Papaioannou MD FRCOG, have reported that they find OvuSense™ easy and comfortable to use.
"I consider myself very lucky," Laura Davies says. "I was using OvuSense™ for just one month when I became pregnant. I found OvuSense™ to be very useful. Some of the other devices on the market tell you when you have ovulated which is interesting but not particularly helpful. OvuSense™ tells you when you will be fertile which gives you the best possible chance."
The OvuSense™ system comprises two parts. The personal Sensor is made of implantable medical grade silicone and is shaped like a tampon. It is placed in the vagina before going to bed and takes 120 readings of internal, core body temperature overnight. Each Sensor lasts for three months. The Sensor is removed in the morning and placed on the second part, the Reader. The Reader features simple step by step software instructions, enabling couples to carry out home assessments. It is lightweight and portable, enabling the woman to take it with her when travelling or when visiting her doctor. The Reader constructs a personal profile throughout each month, identifies that ovulation has occurred and provides the woman with a prediction of her fertile period at the start of each new cycle.
Notes for editors: OvuSense™ can be purchased from the Fertility Focus website: http://www.fertility-focus.com. A couple can make an outright purchase of the Reader for £400 and the Sensor for £300, including VAT, packaging and shipping.
Alternatively, the Reader and Sensor can be rented by the couple for £125 per month including VAT, packaging and shipping. A deposit of £250 is required for the Reader and there is a minimum of two months' rental.
