The Astana Economic Forum is among the world's most prestigious expert dialogue platforms. In 2015, in accordance with tradition, the event was held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana city, and counted more than 5,000 participants from around 100 countries. Heads of government, major international organizations, leading experts in economics and finance, and Nobel Prize winners met to discuss the most pressing issues on the global agenda.

"Infrastructure: the driver of sustainable economic growth" was the theme of this year's forum, reflecting the current priorities of the global economy. Over the course of the two-day event about 30 sessions of varying format took place, all focused on this flagship topic.
Kenneth Rogoff, former IMF Chief Economist and professor of economics at Harvard University noted:
"It's one of the most important economic conferences. I have read about it for many years and it's a great privilege finally to be able to attend. There are many topics being discussed here but the theme of Infrastructure is one that interests the whole world at the moment."
The Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, pointed out: "Capital efficient investments into infrastructure are a main generator of sustained economic growth."
Key activities of the forum included the Plenary session, Investment Forum "Invest in Kazakhstan", Forum of Europe and Asia, Eurasian Integration Development Vectors, Revival of the Silk Road and the Urban Forum.
Helen Clark, an administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, highlighted Kazakhstan's significant contribution to the global dialogue. She also noted: "Kazakhstan has an enormous opportunity to build resilience through its new Nurly Zhol economic policy, and the accompanying Infrastructure Development Plan unveiled by the President last year."
Nouriel Roubini, a professor of New York University, drew attention to a number of positive and negative trends currently affecting the global economy.
The forum resulted in the conclusion of several major contracts and agreements, the signing of memoranda and guiding documents.
The 2015 AEF became a part of history. But, as it was noted by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the results of its work, new ideas, projects and initiatives brought by participants will contribute to the well-being of all people in the region. They will create conditions that guarantee economic, political and social stability and sustainability.
