Serono Symposia International Foundation (SSIF) announces the winner of the SSIF 2013 Award in oncology. The winner, chosen among all the evaluations and upon the documentation provided by the candidate, is Professor Fortunato Ciardiello, Full Professor of Medical Oncology, Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Therapeutics, Head of the Division of Medical Oncology, Director of the "Dipartimento Medico-Chirurgico di Internistica Clinica e Sperimentale" and Member of the Academic Senate, Seconda Università di Napoli in Naples, Italy. Recently, Professor Ciardiello has been also nominated European Society of Medical Oncology President 2016-2017.

The SSIF Award Committee - to whom some of the most prestigious worldwide experts in bioscience belong - assessed the applications and drew up the shortlist of candidates.
Professor Fortunato Ciardiello has been chosen as the medical expert who has done most to drive medical education forward, through his results on educational activities, academic and research work in the field of oncology.
Every year SSIF promotes the Award in a different field of expertise and this edition has been dedicated to oncology which is one of the most evolving fields of medical and scientific researches.
