'Young' Seniors Missing Out On Medical and Emergency Alerts System

Bay Alarm Medical Survey Sheds Light on Medical Alert Purchasing

Bay Alarm Medical, a leading provider of home medical and emergency alert systems and services, today released the findings from its Medical and Emergency Alert Purchasing Trends Survey. The survey uncovered that it is the children of seniors who are the primary purchasers of medical and emergency alert systems, and that they are waiting until their parents reach their 80s before purchasing.

As well as helping prevent long-term injuries by providing immediate response to medical and other emergencies, medical alert systems give seniors an added sense of confidence, independence and safety.  

"Our message to the children of seniors is why wait?" said Bay Alarm Medical marketing manager Alan Wu. "In-home aging and independent living are growing priorities for seniors of all ages, which is why devices and services that protect and enable this lifestyle are so important."

Bay Alarm Medical surveyed more than 2500 participants from its member base in March 2015. Some key findings include:

• 69% of medical alert systems are not purchased by the primary user
• Nearly a fifth of medical alert systems are purchased by someone who lives over 75 miles from the user
• 70% of medical and emergency alert users are 80 years or older at time of purchase
• Less than 7% of users are under 70 years old at time of purchase
