Xchanging to Provide Cloud-Based Telecoms Service To Gatwick Airport
LONDON, October 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Xchanging, the business process, procurement and technology services provider, has signed a new five-year technology contract with existing customer, London Gatwick Airport, the busiest single-runway airport in the world.
Under the terms of the contract, Xchanging, in partnership with Fujitsu and Cisco, will modernise the existing communications infrastructure and provide collaboration services, including voice, video and instant messaging. Phase one of the roll-out will begin this month and include 1,100 members of staff, before extending the services to the remaining 2,500 employees and the airport's 300 commercial customers.
The new platform will provide the airport's workforce with greater mobility, enabling staff to work from anywhere, connecting through to any device. Collaboration will be possible via smartphones and video conferencing and the flexible service means Gatwick Airport can consume services as necessary.
The contract is part of Gatwick Airport's extensive transformation programme as it strives to become London's airport of choice.
Michael Ibbitson, Chief Information Officer, Gatwick Airport, comments:
"We need to bring telecoms performance levels up to a standard capable of underpinning an ever busier and more challenging 24/7 environment; that's critical for supporting our passengers effectively. I'm very excited with the new platform from Xchanging. Not only will it deliver reduced costs, it also offers flexible ways for our staff to communicate, wherever they are."
Andrew Binns, Executive Director, Xchanging Technology Services, comments:
"Gatwick Airport is a fast-paced environment and moving from an on-premise telecoms set-up to a cloud-based consumption model provides staff with agility and flexibility. Following our announcement in June about delivering new End User Compute Desktop services to Gatwick, we're delighted to expand the Telephony Services with this exciting and innovative contract."
In addition to Telephony Services, Xchanging provides Network Management and End User Compute Services. To hear how Xchanging has brought innovation to millions of passengers, watch our latest video here.
