Future Technologies for Building Industry Revealed and Discussed in Manchester
MANCHESTER, England, April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
*Government representative to guide the industry through changes in regulation*
*BIM Show Live 23-24 April 2014*
*Industry heavyweights across architecture and construction to attend*
The 23rd and 24th April will see the UK's most established Building Information Modelling event take place at Manchester Central. The event will see over 600 experts coming to the city to learn and network about the new technology that sets industry standards.
Now in its fourth year, BIM Show Live is coming to Manchester for the first time and will see an expanded exhibition and extensive conference programme. Over 40 expert speakers and 30 breakout sessions will deliver detailed business critical BIM content covering four stages alongside an exhibition with forward thinking suppliers and inspirational features. Speakers will include Terry Stocks, Deputy Head of the Estates Department, Ministry of Justice, Malcolm Taylor, Head of Technical Information, Crossrail, James Anwyl, Director at Eurobuild and Rebecca Hodgson-Jones, Head of BIM at Sir Robert McAlpine.
BIM Show Live takes place at a time of dynamic change in the construction industry - as it experiences rapid growth following the recession and the adoption of Building Information Modelling becomes more widespread in practices across the UK. Having long been a much loved tool of architects, the rest of the built environment community is catching up with contractors, developers, facilities managers and lawyers embracing BIM as standard practice on projects.
Building Information Modelling is a collaborative way of working, underpinned by the digital technologies which unlock more efficient methods of designing, creating and maintaining assets. BIM embeds key product and asset data and a three dimensional computer model that can be used for effective management of information throughout a project lifecycle - from earliest concept through to operation.
2016 will bring the adoption deadline for public sector construction and development work - when all projects for the government must use BIM technology. David Philp, Head of BIM & Implementation at the Cabinet Office, will be keynote speaker at the event, to guide attendees through the impending changes and demands of government BIM compliance.
Figures show that the North West of England alone has a national infrastructure pipeline of nearly £8 billion between 2013-2020, alongside a public sector construction pipeline of over £7 billion* - which demonstrates the potential for the industry. The government implements these changes with the vision of becoming a global leader in BIM practices.
Building Magazine recently reported: "There is a lot of talk about BIM being the new frontier of construction, and Manchester City Council is at the forefront of that revolution." This follows the recent completion of its central library refurbishment, using BIM technology. They added "Manchester council committed to using BIM on the scheme principally because of the benefits it believes it can offer in managing the building more effectively after completion."
