Closure of Omnia Plaatvloer B.V. in Coevorden
NIEUWEGEIN, The Netherlands, April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Ballast Nedam is to close Omnia Plaatvloer B.V. in Coevorden. The closure has been prompted by persistent losses and the lack of future prospects. This situation is attributable to the sharp fall in construction volume and a substantial production overcapacity in the market for prefabricated concrete floors. Omnia produces and supplies wide panel flooring for residential and nonresidential buildings. The closure of this company will involve the loss of 67 jobs, including 7 employees of the wholly owned subsidiary JK Engineering B.V.. This subsidiary works exclusively for Omnia Plaatvloer B.V. on the technical design of floor constructions and consultancy.
Production will cease in mid June. In order to assure customers of the delivery of orders, Ballast Nedam has transferred the portfolio to the company Betonson, which is part of the Van Nieuwpoort Groep and is a supplier on the market for prefabricated concrete floors.
The Central Works Council has now been consulted and the relevant trade unions have been informed.
The employees will be told about the closure this morning. Ballast Nedam's current redundancy package will be applicable to Omnia and JK Engineering employees. A mobility centre has been set up to help those affected to move if possible into a new job without delay.
Omnia was founded in 1973, and has been an independent, non-central Ballast Nedam business unit since 2002.
