If you're friends with an Adam or a Patricia, you might find yourself empty handed come Christmas time, as research from an online retailer has discovered the Top 100 Generous Names in the UK.

The study conducted by personalised gift specialists GettingPersonal.co.uk compiled data from over 250,000 gift givers, and takes into account not only the number of gifts purchased but also the total amount spent.

The results reveal that Paul, David and Mark are the top three most generous men's names, while Adam, Lee and Ben came at the bottom of the list. It turns out that Paul McCartney is the person we should want opening presents with us on Christmas day, and not Ben Affleck.

It also looks like Dame Julie Andrews never lost her Christmas spirit, as the name Julie topped the list of generous women, along with the names Karen and Rebecca. Watch out for Patricia, Diane and Janet, though because these ladies turned out to be the stingiest.

When it comes to our royals, Kate might want to start dropping some serious hints because 'William' didn't even make it into the top 100.
