Transport Minister & Brooke Kinsella MBE Launch Young Person's Bus Site
BRIGHTON, England, September 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Transport Minister Norman Baker and youth campaigner Brooke Kinsella MBE have today launched a newly improved version of BUSFORUS, the UK bus industry's young person's bus travel site.
BUSFORUS, available on PC, mobile and tablet, uses sophisticated mapping and GPS tools to match users with their nearest (or searched) bus stops and services, whilst providing real and scheduled arrival/departure times, detailed route maps and ticketing and facilities information.
The site has been developed over the past year by the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) with help from its operator members.
Speaking at today's launch in Brighton, Giles Fearnley said: "Our enhanced site is simple to use and makes the planning and taking of bus journeys quicker and easier than ever before.
"I am really excited by the potential of BUSFORUS and I am certain that it will become the go-to place for young people searching local bus information."
Local Transport Minister, Norman Baker said: "I am pleased the Confederation of Passenger Transport and its members have responded so positively to my recent concerns about access to information on buses and bus travel for young people.
"Buses play an important role in both boosting economic growth by helping people get to job interviews and get into work and cutting carbon. The enhanced features of BUSFORUS will make it easier to plan journeys and access information on bus travel and that is great news for passengers."
BUSFORUS supporter Brooke Kinsella MBE added: "I am a champion for young people and support anything that benefits them and makes life that little bit easier. BUSFORUS is a great service in many ways; not just because of the environmental and financial savings that buses can bring, but also because it makes getting around safe and easy.
"I am the daughter of a London Taxi driver and am useless when it comes to getting around town, so I will definitely be using the site from my phone next time I'm out."
