Rainbow Children® Reaches out Globally to Help Alleviate Depression and Addiction in Young People
LONDON, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
This class format of therapeutic stories with movement, affirming songs and soothing images will now be available to resource children worldwide
The UK based Rainbow Children teacher training, which has enabled many yoga, dance and primary school teachers to resource children to navigate life's challenges with ease, is now available internationally through an accredited home study training programme, it was announced today.
Many children are crumbling under the pressures of modern life with little to support them. The latest ONS (Office of National Statistics) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Survey report indicates that 1 in 10 children aged 5 to 16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder (which is around three children in every class) and that the number of 15 to 16 year olds suffering from depression has doubled in the last 20 years. A staggering 37.7% of 16 to 24 year olds have taken illicit drugs according to the 2012 Crime Survey.
The training has been developed in response to the need for a format that can help to heal the spiritual malaise that is affecting much of society and having an impact on children. By offering a joyful connection to self, others, nature and subtle energy, Rainbow Children classes can ease the problems that we see in adolescents and young adults such as depression and addiction by resourcing children during their formative years.
The US based National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) explains that "young people often try drugs in an attempt to "feel better" and that "Some people who suffer from social anxiety, stress-related disorders, and depression begin abusing drugs in an attempt to lessen feelings of distress. Another reason they explain is to "feel good" they explain that "Most abused drugs produce intense feelings of pleasure. This initial sensation of euphoria is followed by other effects, which differ with the type of drug used. For example, with stimulants such as cocaine, the "high" is followed by feelings of power, self-confidence, and increased energy. In contrast, the euphoria caused by opiates such as heroin is followed by feelings of relaxation and satisfaction."
Often teenagers turn to drugs and alcohol to get 'high', to escape a busy mind and to connect with others. Linda Ananda, Rainbow Children Founder, explains "The unique combination of activities offered by a Rainbow Children Teacher, helps children discover the release of emotional and physical tension and the natural high that comes from moving freely, ecstatic dance and understanding and feeling their subtle energy, whilst also learning how to be present, mindful and recognise and utilise their inner resources. This enables them to become relaxed, aware and connected to the beauty and opportunity that each moment offers".
The latest NIDA publication 'Drugs, Brains, and Behavior: The Science of Addiction' points to the fact that early intervention often has a greater impact than later intervention by changing a child's life path (trajectory) away from problems and toward positive behaviours. Those training to become Rainbow Children teachers have a passion for enabling children to develop self-esteem, emotional intelligence and inner resources whilst discovering the magic of life and the joy of being in a human body; setting them up for a positive future.
