REV DEREK WATSON APPOINTED TO DEANERY OF SALISBURY
The Queen has approved that the Rev Derek Richard Watson MA, Rector of St Luke and Christ Church, Chelsea in the Diocese of London, should he appointed to the Deanery of Salisbury in succession to the Very Rev the Honourable Hugh Geoffrey Dickinson MA DipTh on his resignation of 31 August 1996.
The Rev Derek Watson was born in 1938, educated at Selwyn College, Cambridge (BA 1961, MA 1965) and Cuddesdon Theological College, and was ordained Deacon in 1964 and Priest in 1965.
Since then his ministry has been:
1966-70 Chaplain, Christ's College, Cambridge
1970-73 Domestic Chaplain to the Bishop of Southwark
1973-78 Vicar, Surbiton St Mark and then Surbiton St Andrew and St Mark
1978-82 Canon Residentiary and Treasurer, Southwark Cathedral Diocesan
- Director of Ordinands, Southwark Diocese
1982-87 Priest in Charge then Rector, Chelsea St Luke (London)
1987- Rector, Chelsea St Luke and Christ Church
1994- Area Dean, Chelsea
Mr Watson is married to the Rev Sheila Watson, currently senior selection secretary to the Advisory Board for Ministry.
