New Century Care Announces Appointment of Ted Smith as Chairman

New Century Care (NCC), a leading UK operator of care homes for people with dementia and specialist nursing needs, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ted Smith as Non-Executive Chairman with immediate effect. Ted Smith brings extensive experience from a successful career in the health care sector. Ted served last as Chief Executive Officer of European Care Group until the end of March and, prior to that, six years as CEO of Craegmoor.

Ted Smith has been CEO of European Care Group from 2011 to March 2014, a major independent provider of health and social care in the UK. Prior to that he was Chief Executive of Craegmoor between 2005 and 2011, where he successfully led the turnaround and growth of the business to become the UK's largest independent provider of care and support to adults with specialist needs. Craegmoor was successfully refinanced and sold to Advent International in 2008, and subsequently merged with the Priory Group in 2011.
Ted qualified as a Pharmacist before joining Boots in 1979 and held various management roles during his 19 years with the UK health retailer. Following Boots, Ted joined WH Smith and in 2002 Iceland Foods. Ted was the Honorary Treasurer and Vice Chairman for the English Care Community Association and a member of the influential Adults with Learning Disabilities Services forum for six years. He was also a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for 20 years and served for three years as a member of its council, as well as sitting on the Board of Kensington, Westminster and Chelsea Family Health Services Authority.
