Manchester City inaugurates brand new stadium
London, August 14 /PRNewswire/ -- - City plays on same stadium pitch as Liverpool FC and Real Madrid
Manchester City FC kick off their season with their first competitive match in their brand new stadium when they play Total Network Solutions FC in the first leg of the qualification stages of the UEFA cup.
The Commonwealth Games stadium was recently converted from an athletics venue into a football stadium. The conversion commenced at the end of the Games, with the renovation taking 10 months in total.
Every seat in the stadium is covered by the roof which is supported by an innovative pre-stressed cable net. However, the design had implications on the stadium pitch. The rounding out of the seating bowl and the completion of the roof created an environment which made it very difficult for the grass to develop. For this reason they opted for a reinforced grass pitch, the so-called DD GrassMaster-system, produced by Desso DLW Sports Systems. Thanks to this system and the efforts of the maintenance team headed by the Premiership's Groundsman of the Year, Roy Rigby, Manchester City will be able to play on a totally stable and evergreen pitch.
Desso installed the pitch at Manchester City Stadium in conjunction with the main contractor Mallinson's. With the installation of this system, Manchester City joins the growing list of clubs such as Liverpool FC, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles who already play on a DD GrassMaster-system in their stadium. DD GrassMaster is a patented system of Desso DLW Sports Systems.
