Rosko, who was also one of the founding DJ's of Radio 1, announced his return this morning from a ship in the River Thames. The announcement saw Rosko sail a replica Radio Caroline ship down the Thames from Trinity Wharf by London's O2 before mooring up at Tower Bridge.
When the vessel arrived at the iconic London landmark, Rosko announced that he is coming out of retirement to launch Last Pirate FM, a DAB community radio station that will broadcast for five days from Monday (11th September)
Rosko is launching Last Pirate FM to mark Remember A Charity in Your Will Week 2017. Remember A Charity is a coalition of 180 charitable organisations that aim to encourage more people to consider leaving a gift to charity in their Will once they have taken care of friends and family. Remember A Charity want to highlight how even a small donation can make a major impact on charitable organisations' ability to deliver critical services.
Remember A Charity are aiming to grow the gifts in Wills market, with current figures showing that 35% of people say they'd be happy to leave a legacy, but only 6% actually doing so. It is hoped that by celebrating the legacy of Radio Caroline, the baby boomer generation who grew up with the likes of Emperor Rosko & Tony Prince will be encouraged to leave their own legacy to the next generation by leaving a gift in their Will.
From Monday, Rosko (real name Mike Pasternak) will take Last Pirate FM on a regional roadshow, which will take the message of the importance of gifts in Wills across the UK.
Starting in London, Last Pirate FM will be broadcast from an airstream that will visit Bournemouth, Norwich, and Liverpool in consecutive days, before conducting its final broadcast from Edinburgh on Friday 15th September. Tony Prince, another former Radio Caroline DJ, will rejoin his old colleague Emperor Rosko and broadcast a daily hour-long pre-recorded show on Last Pirate FM.
Emperor Rosko comments, ' I am delighted to be back in the UK to launch Last Pirate FM. I loved my time here in the 1960's and 1970's, so the chance to come back to do a radio roadshow that celebrates the best of that era was too good an opportunity to turn down. I look forward to visiting some of my old UK haunts and encouraging people to have their say on the world they want to pass on.'
Rob Cope, Director at Remember A Charity comments, 'We are all hugely excited about the launch of Last Pirate FM and the roadshow that we will embark on next week. This is without doubt the most ambitious campaign we have launched to mark Remember A Charity in Your Will Week.
Gifts in Wills are worth £2.5bn to the charitable sector, the equivalent of 25 Comic Relief appeals and is integral to many charities and their ability to deliver the vital services upon which many communities rely. 60% of the country's lifeboat launches and a third of Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work is funded by gifts in Wills.
If we could increase the number of charitable gifts left in Wills by just 4% that would raise another £1bn for good causes. We hope that by celebrating the legacy of pirate radio and the 1960's, this will encourage the generation who remember this era to have their own say on the world they want to leave behind and leave a gift in their will.'
Last Pirate FM will broadcast 24hrs a day from Monday 11th- Friday 15th September. Emperor Rosko will broadcast live from 10am-1pm daily and Tony Prince's show will go out from 1-2pm. More information can be found at http://www.rememberacharity.org.uk
