AMERSHAM, England, August 23 /PRNewswire/ --
- And it's Back For 6 Weeks
This is the finding from a poll run by online retro sweetshop www.AQuarterOf.co.uk where visitors were asked for their favourite sweets of all time.
And from the 40,000 responses the Texan is the most popular chocolate bar ever by a country mile... gaining more votes than the whole of the rest of the Top 10 combined.
Michael Parker, who started up www.AQuarterOf.co.uk in 2002, wasn't surprised that Texans led the field... but he was taken aback by the margin.
He said "Ever since we started the online sweetshop we have received a steady stream of emails from customers enquiring if Texans are still available... and many people have even asked us to start a petition to beg the manufacturers to start production again"
"Although I knew Texans would probably be near the top of the list I certainly didn't expect it to receive 5 times as many votes as the second most popular sweet - Nutty Bars. Texan Bars just seem to have really caught people's imaginations"
The Return of the Texan
"When we heard that Nestle were to bring back Texans we knew that our customers would love it. For so long we had to tell them that Texans were nothing more than a sweet memory... and now everyone can enjoy again the sweet that they have missed for so long. It's sad that they are only coming back for 6 weeks... so we will have to savour them while we can!"
The other thing that stands out from the list is that, like Texan before its relaunch, all of the other bars in the top 5 are sweets which are no longer available.
"Nutty Bars (no 2), Mint Cracknell (no 3), Cabana (no 4) and Aztec Bars (no 5) may only be memories now... but they must be incredibly fond ones for people to choose them as their favourite sweet ever. It just goes to show that there seems to be something about sweets from the past that people love"
"Sweets just bring memories flooding back. Just try mentioning the list of sweets around the office, or to friends, and see what reaction you get".
"I bet their eyes will glaze over as people start to reminisce and reel off their other favourites."
And with www.AQuarterOf.co.uk receiving orders for up to 2 tonnes of their retro favourites per day it looks like the British love affair with old-fashioned sweets is well and truly here to stay!
The highest placed bar still in general production is the Curly Wurly at 6th position in the Top 10.

Notes For Editors
Launched in July 2002 as a result of a nostalgic conversation in a pub, AQuarterOf.co.uk is an online recreation of the traditional, friendly, old-fashioned sweetshop.
Founder Michael Parker wanted his online store to be authentic, quirky and have a strong 'personality', reflecting the atmosphere of 70s and 80s childhoods. The cartoon characters which are dotted throughout the site add to the nostalgic feel - drawn especially for the website by Colin Whittock - who used to be a cartoonist on Michael's favourite comic when he was young - Whizzer and Chips.
