Gentle Prostate Therapy With the Green Light Power Laser / Now Every Prostate Enlargement can be Treated

HEIDELBERG, Germany, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Gentle and modern therapeutic methods are becoming increasingly important in prostate therapy. With the new generation of 120-watt lasers, all sizes of prostate can now be treated. A lot of men are affected by benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) - an unpleasant, painful enlargement of the prostate. For some years the treatment has involved laser therapy using green light. Leading the way in Germany with over 1,200 treatments is the 'clinic for prostate therapy' in Heidelberg. While several clinics are adopting the green laser beam treatment, the teams in Heidelberg are, yet again, one step ahead: "We are now working with a new kind of ultra-modern power laser," reports the head of the clinic, Dr. med. Joachim-Ernst Deuster. Urologists can treat almost every size of prostate using a 120-watt laser, the vaporization effect is also better and the treatment duration is much shorter, according to Dr. Deuster. Thanks to a flexible fiber-optic light guide and an endoscope introduced into the ureter, the green light with a wavelength of 532 nanometers directly reaches the prostate. This wavelength corresponds to the maximal absorption capacity of blood vessels, which, under the influence of the light, consume more energy, inducing tissue-warming and a vaporization effect.

The urologists at the Heidelberg prostate clinic irradiate the tissue until the urethra is open again and the urine can flow away unobstructed. They control the entire treatment with a monitor. After about an hour the procedure is concluded and the patient can quickly recover from the intervention and the light general anesthesia. Download pictures from in the press area.
