From the 29 winners the UK has produced an award-winning designer - Slim
Barrett. Born in Galway, Ireland and now living in London, Slim began
designing jewellery that instantly attracted the attention of the fashion
world. He has been commissioned to design accessories for the catwalk
collections of Chanel, Ungaro, Versace, Montana, Karl Lagerfeld and John
Galliano. Slim has been cited as the designer responsible for bringing crowns
and tiaras back into modern use. Slim's necklace is sponsored by Clark
Diamonds of Birmingham, UK.
The 29 winning designs were selected by an independent panel of judges,
all leading figures in the world of design and fashion, including Joan Juliet
Buck, Editor-in-Chief Vogue France; Sergio Salerni, Fashion Show
Designer/Director Italy; Andre Leon Talley, Editor-at-Large Vogue USA and
Albert Watson, Photographer USA. Albert photographed the collection and the
stunning results can be seen in the brochure.
This year's winning Diamonds-International Awards designs embody the
excitement of a new era, with opulent diamond necklaces and fantasy headpieces
emerging as the trends.
Now Apsrey & Garrard, who have pioneered new standards of artistry since
the 18th century attracting monarchs and aristocrats throughout the world,
are hosting a public exhibition of the De Beers Diamonds-International Awards
from today Friday June 16 until Saturday June 24.
The exhibition is being held in The Eternal Diamond Room at 167 New Bond
Street, London W1 Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and on Saturday from 10am
