Amazon has held exclusive events in the past, but generally shies away from publishing papers or giving talks about its technology. But the world's biggest online retailer has been investing in areas like robotics and artificial intelligence.

Industries worldwide are demanding better precision and efficiency in order to meet the growing end-user demand. This has led to high demand for machines that are capable of increasing industrial efficiency by handling multiple tasks while remaining uncompromising on overall accuracy. Amazon currently has tens of thousands of "Kiva" robots in its delivery warehouses, according to reports. The global robotics market is projected to grow at a rate of 29.11% by 2019.

Smart homes is another topic being discussed at the conference. A smart home comprises of an internal network, home automation, and intelligent control. It offers a wide variety of applications such as home security, energy management, home cloud, and e-health services. It is a market that is expected to grow 38% in the U.S. alone over the next few years.

One of Amazon's best-selling products is its Amazon Echo device, which uses a voice-enabled artificial intelligence platform to perform tasks such as dimming lights or adjust room temperature. Artificial intelligence is growing in popularity due to factors such as diversified application areas, improved productivity, and increased customer satisfaction. The market is expected to be worth $5.05 billion by 2020.
