2012 Year in Review
LONDON, December 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
• 2012 holiday trends saw increased focus on ski breaks
• Safety made prime focus
• Neilson's projections for 2013 name last minute ski deals as key area of growth
Following on from the popularity of ski breaks this year, leading travel operator Neilson expect last minute ski holidays to remain a popular option over the coming year too as more travellers look for late winter deals when booking time away. However as with most holidays, booking in advance remains the preferred option as holidaymakers can ensure they bag the best resorts and chalets, without any of the worry that comes with leaving it all to the last minute.
Looking at trends from this year's ski season, winter holidays have proven a popular area for the tourism industry. A marketing campaign by ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) has seen the promotion winter sports this season.
This trend is certainly expected to continue in 2013 - but what else do the experts at Neilson expect to characterise ski holidays in the coming year?
Entertainment on and off the slopes
What happens off the slopes is just as important as what happens on them, and this is why après ski is expected to become even more varied. There is already a vast amount of diversity in the activities which are offered, with bars and clubs ensuring entertainment is available at every turn.
Chalets are becoming a more popular accommodation choice, with ski chalet holidays offering a cosy home-from-home feel and with inclusive hearty breakfasts, afternoon tea and cake and three course evening meals, all cooked by your chalet host - means they are a great value for money option.
Time delays
Increased rivalry in the industry has meant that many travel agents are now able to offer more competitive deals. Whether you choose to book in advance or wait for late ski deals, Neilson are determined to offer an extensive range of affordable options suitable for every type of skier.
Safety first
As a dangerous sport, skiing comes with a number of risks. To tackle these, leading ski resorts offer extensive equipment hire options to ensure their guests have access to everything they need.
For 2013, more stringent controls on safety are expected to be seen with protective clothing such as helmets getting a considerable amount of attention. Some resorts, such as St Anton in Austria, offer free safety helmets for children whilst others insist safety equipment is worn by all those attending their 'ski schools'.
Our travel insurance provider, Essential Travel, have now made it compulsory to wear helmets when skiing in order to prevent potentially fatal injuries to the head. This followed research undertaken by the company which found that 77% of British skiers now wear helmets which is 15% more than 2 years ago.
